Abstract
This paper analyzes the meaning and implication of words used to describe Antarctic-related phenomena from the landscape and physical objects to the individuals stationed there, their activities, and their interaction. Attention is paid to how those individuals have semantically transformed the Spanish language in an effort to describe phenomena beyond the scope of traditional usage. The words and phrases that they have devised reflect a unique context with both material and immaterial points of reference
